Nandita Basu is based in New Delhi, India. She studied Fashion design and Clothing technology at NIFT and then went on to Central Saint Martins, London before returning to India to set up her own design studio.
Nandita’s design aesthetic is minimal and edgy at the same time. She likes using traditional art and craft techniques but in a contemporary manner. Her clothes have a classic appeal yet are quirky. She feels fit, finish and form as well as attention to detail and construction are all important elements of designer clothing.
She likes playing with off beat pattern cutting techniques. She works a lot with surface textures. She also uses certain trademark techniques such as leather strips embroidery and 3D cutout textures that are unique to her work.
Nandita has showcased her work in Mumbai, New Delhi at the India Fashion Week, at the ethical Fashion show in Paris, at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, the Sri Lanka fashion week and at the United Nations in New York.
Nandita along with Abhishek Gupta launched a streetwear line called Fightercock at the India fashion Week in 2006.
She currently retails from her signature store at the Crescent at the Qutab in New Delhi and through other designer stores in different cities. She has also sold her collection in London, Kuwait, Hongkong and New York.

Nandita Basu’s Fall Winter 2010 collectionhas been inspired by a nineteenth century Japanese artist who was famous for his woodblock prints known as ukiyo-e. It is a modern interpretation of his work. The collection comprises of contemporary womenswear. The colours are dark and muted and there is an emphasis on texture and tailoring.
