Summer of 1999 Sabyasachi Mukherjee graduated from NIFT Kolkota with three major awards. Best Design Collection NIFT Kolkota Best Design Collection NIFT All India Ritu Kumar Award for Excellence in Design Four months later Sabyasachi started his eponymous label. In early 2001 Sabyasachi won the Femina British Council most outstanding young Designer of India Award, which took him to London for an internship with Georgina Etzdorf, an eclectic designer based inSalisbury. Returning home with edgier Sabyasachi started retailing at all major stores in India. In 2002 Sabyasachi participated at the LIFW where his debut collection earned him rave reviews from the national and international press. Spring of 2003 Sabyasachi made his international mark by bagging the grand winner award at the Mercedes New Asia fashion week in Singapore. Sabyasachi now aspires to get a corporate tie-up to promote his brand outside his country. Design Philosophy It is intuition that makes a garment work not rules.
